My little secret, The Book Depository

My little secret, The Book Depository

A little more than a year ago, after first signing up for my reading club, I decided it was time to start reading more in English. But after looking at different bookstores I realized that it wasn’t easy to find the books I wanted and, even less, to find nice editions that really caught my attention.

I searched for a while without buying a single book until someone suggested looking at The Book Depository, a website that sells books in English (mostly) and doesn’t charge shipping costs. Being that what stopped me from buying books online was the issue of having to pay almost twice the book price for it to be sent home, I decided to look at the page and give it a try.

I must say that everything I saw in it surprised me very pleasantly. I found each and every one of the books I looked for, both classic and modern novels; and furthermore there was a huge variety of editions of each from which to choose.

I guess it’s not necessary to say that in a matter of hours I had filled three wishlists (I’ll leave one here in case someone wants to give me a present hehe) and order two books, The Complete Tales and Poems of Edgar Allan Poe, of which I wrote a review not long ago and that you can read here, and The Complete Fiction of H.P. Lovecraft, of which I will be writing soon.

The thing is that after this books I didn’t buy more on the page, I went to Cork and there I could find books in English in any bookstore, and due to my absence they sent me a discount code on any purchase. And it was thanks to it that I finally decided to buy a collection of 8 books called Word Cloud Box Set: Brown, which includes Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, two collections of fairy tales of the Grimm Brothers, Dracula, Frankenstein and Great Expectations.

Today the box has finally arrived and when I had opened it I could not believe what I saw. It is not at all what I was expecting, it is much better. The box is outstanding; the editions are beautiful, in design, typography, colour and, above all, binding; and I have been given a bookmark designed according to the aesthetics of the set.

In short, I couldn’t be happier and as soon as I can I’ll buy the “Lavender Set”.

As I read the books I will write about them on the blog, although right now I have no idea where to start.

I want to read them all at the same time!
